Kythira is an island gifted with an abundance of natural terrain. Explore the many wondrous locations throughout the island enjoying ample walking trails and ancient archaeological delights. For the best hiking experience make sure to plan ahead. Some top sites worth a visit, just to name a few, include the Moudari Lighthouse, Paliochora (ruins of ‘Old Town Kythira’) and the stunning Medieval Castle of Chora. Another beautiful scenic hiking trail is the Neromilos of Milopotamos.

Looking for something a little more soulful, check out a selection of bars around the island featuring live-band entertainment. Whether it’s a relaxing day by-the-beach you’re after or an invigorating day-trip to the Cave of Xytra, you’ll be sure to enjoy the glistening waters of the Kythirian seaside. Most beaches offer sun-shaded beach chairs for hire and convenient food and beverage facilities. Less-populated beaches will require BYO resources and appropriate off-road transportation. The Bay of Avelmonas is also worth a visit.

Explore the tranquil Springs of Amir Ali near the village of Karavas surrounded by lavish greenery and running water. The perfect location for a relaxing stroll, be sure to re-fuel with a refreshing beverage at the local café. Another impressive natural water spot you can put on your must-see list is Neraida Waterfall, located in Milopotamos. Also worth a visit is The Neromilos of Milopotamos, situated nearby. Tip* for a more vivid waterfall experience try visiting the Neraida spring outside the peak summer months.

Connect on a spiritual level by visiting one of many churches and monasteries located on the island of Kythira. The monastery of Panagia Myrtidiotsissa is perhaps the most famous of them all, attracting many visitors each year. Be sure to also visit Agia Elessa and Agia Moni which feature incredible views. Other churches and monasteries that are worth a visit include the historic Agioi Anargiroi (Paliokastro), the sunset worthy Agios Nikolaos (Krasas on Mavros Vrachos) and the magical Cave of Agia Sofia.
